Mirjam Pressler Receives German Youth Literature Prize for her Complete Works
On Friday evening at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the author and translator
Mirjam Pressler has been handed over the special prize which is worth 10.000
EUROS.
Children and young people growing up in difficult social living conditions,
having suffered a loss or social exclusion - these are the recurring central
themes in Mirjam Pressler's literary works. Her stories are about
existential experiences, but they also deal with historic-political topics
as for example the Third Reich and the holocaust.
By literary means the author, who lives in Munich, tries to gain
international understanding and religious tolerance, the jury gives as a
reason for the prize.
