Difficult Situations in Therapy and Counselling

34 problems and suggested solutions

- reacting competently in psychotherapy and counselling
- illustrative case studies
- dos and don'ts for any situation

From clients who stay silent to violent ones, from private encounters to suicide threats – there are many difficult situations which crop up in psychotherapy and counselling. This practice book vividly illustrates how to deal with difficult situations across disorders.

After a brief introduction, the authors present 34 difficult situations which can arise in psychotherapy and counselling along with possible solutions. All the chapters are structured similarly: first there is a case study for the specific situation and then the respective psychotherapeutic or counselling characteristics are analysed. Concrete ideas for intervention, some of them with examples of predefined phrases, as well as dos and don'ts present possible solutions. In this way, these difficult situations can be dealt with.
