Tutorials – Learning with Explanatory Videos

• creating a new learning culture in school
• new media formats for digital lessons

In recent years, explanatory videos have become established worldwide as a media format. As the largest audiovisual encyclopaedia in human history, YouTube already offers educational television for specific addressees on all conceivable topics. This allows new didactic approaches to be used for teaching as well. There are already many video-sharing platforms specifically designed for teaching, for example from universities, national multimedia libraries or third-party providers.

This anthology presents the latest developments in the field of ‘Learning with Explanatory Videos’ with the help of many examples from practical school experience (including Flipped Classroom). The authors also show how explanatory videos change educational processes – from the role of the teacher to the preparation of materials for school and teacher training. The name for this new explaining and learning culture is Tutorial Culture, which marks the beginning of the digital age in schools.
